Created in honour of the Langematik Perpetual's 20th anniversary, this reference 310.028 combines a white gold case and deep, navy-blue dial. A boutique-only release, just 50 pieces were made in this configuration, with another 50 in pink gold. The information on the dial is masterfully outlined, demonstrating that balance is once again a key feature of A. Lange & Shne's design philosophy, and the watch features an updated version of the renowned Sax-o-Mat movement, the L922.1.
The Langematik Perpetual collection was first introduced in 2001, in platinum and yellow gold. The watch was the first to combine a perpetual calendar with the Lange outsize date. Various editions have been released over the lifetime of the watch, and in 2021, to celebrate the collection's 20th anniversary, this reference 310.028 was revealed in white and pink gold, making use of a new movement and featuring striking blue dial. A boutique-only release, just 50 pieces were made in this configuration, with another 50 in pink gold.
This deep, navy blue is uniformly applied across the dial, blending seamlessly into the sub-dials, complemented by white accents as seen through the printed information. The applied Roman numeral index markers are perfectly balanced, and rendered in white gold. Meanwhile, the matching white gold case measures at just 38.5mm, a modern size that does not overpower the wrist while providing enough space for the wearer to read the various sub-dials.
The dial manages to masterfully balance the various information, with A. Lange & Shne's signature large date aperture up front and centre, proportional to the hands and simultaneously drawing your eye to both pieces of information first: the date and time. By removing the 3, 4, 6, 8, and 9 o'clock index markers, the dial feels much less cluttered, and the sub-dials are given the space to breathe. The sub-dials include a days and day/night indicator at 9 o'clock, a month and leap year indicator at 3 o'clock, as well as a moonphase and seconds at 6 o'clock, which also bears "Sax-o-mat" printed just below the seconds hand.
The watch is powered by the Sax-o-Mat calibre L922.1, based on the family of L.921 movements designed by Helmut Geyer, a movement designer at A. Lange & Shne. The first Sax-o-Mat movement was created in 1997, and continued to be used in all automatic watches from the manufacture until 2011. The L922.1 features a zero-reset mechanism so the watch can be set more accurately, and a corrector which allows the wearer to simultaneously advance all the calendar displays.
In true A. Lange & Shne style, the movement is impressively finished, decorated with Glashtte ribbing features, while the chamfering and anglage is done by hand. Meanwhile, the solid gold rotor is engraved with "Sax-o-Mat" and "A. Lange & Shne". The visible working jewels are ensconced in gold chatons while all visible screws are heat-hued to a vibrant blue. The bridges and plates are crafted fromGermansilver, while the balance cock featuring intricate hand-engraving. Both are signature elements of A. Lange & Shne.
