An unusual version of the Tank Cintre with burgundy accents, the watch consciously combines style points derived from older Cartier pieces with modern touches to create an intriguing example. Delivered in 2018, this Cartier Tank Cintre* was created through Cartiers special-order program and remains unique to the present day.
Released in 1921, the Tank Cintre has an extraordinary history, and was first conceived in the Paris branch of the Cartier. Instantly recognisable from its curved design and elongated shape, the Tank Cintre wraps comfortably around the wrist and a great deal of diversity can be found in the model, ranging from font, size of numerals, thickness of case, or even the style of screws.
In the spirit of this diversity, this Tank Cintre is a watch that was created through the Cartier special order program. Commissioned in 2018, the piece draws inspiration from older Cartier pieces, such as the exploding Roman numerals that fill the dial, in addition to the traditional Cartier signature found just above the hands. Though the watch is currently unique, it should be noted that Cartier may accept a similar special request in the future, either to recreate the same watch or something close to it.
The most distinctive feature of this unique Tank Cintre is the burgundy colour that suffuses its numerals, font, and the railroad track encircling the centre of the dial. This shade looks especially striking against the silvered, sunburst-style dial, and is complemented by the ruby cabochon fitted into the crown. The heat-treated hands are a discreet addition that does not overwhelm the rest of the dial.
The movement that powers this Tank Cintre is the mechanical calibre 8971MC, based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 846. Hidden behind a brushed closed caseback, the movement is just as excellently finished and put together as the rest of the watch.
