DESCRIPTION
Rolexs Submariner, the bread and butter of the Crowns luxury tool-watch offerings unoutrageously able to claim the title of the most iconic watch silhouette in history. But Rolex takes it one step further with its 50th anniversary piece for the line, blessing it with a spectacular green & black colour scheme which has been so adored among horology-enthusiasts as to earn its own endearing epithet.
The Kermit is a trendsetter, as with most of Rolexs innovations that sway the rest of the watch world, signalling the era of green in contemporary watchmaking. The black dial not only serving as a grounding counterpart to the expressive green bezel, but also as a resemblance to Kermits open mouth. A cute nickname for an alluring and extremely desirable timepiece. Like calling your fifteen-pound Shih Tzu, Rambo or Mastiff, Cupcake, perhaps dont let the term of endearment fool you into not realising how serious of a piece this is.
This piece should remind you of the older Kermit, but make no mistake there is nothing outdated about this specific model. Fitted with an upgraded in-house self-winding movement, the Calibre 3235 has the longest power reserve of a Submariner ever at 70 robust hours. Being a product of the Crowns innovation at the peak of its game, it features several modern innovations in the mechanical movement industry, including the new Chronergy escapement and the blued Parachrom hairspring.
The Submariner has never been so robust, so tough, and still manages to elevate its handsome charm to new heights.
The utilisation of Rolexs own Cerachrom innovative material blend for the bezel atop the 41mm Oystersteel case is a great example of the developments that we are benefitting from in this piece. Scratch-resistant and powerful, its numerals and graduations are finished in a coating of platinum. The implementation that Rolex executes is one that respects not just style and form, but function too.
If you do find yourself taking the spirit of the piece to the test in the submerged depths of the great seas, then itll be good to know that your excellent timekeeping movement will continue to serve you well, illuminated brightly by the Crowns electric blue Chromalight lume. As well, the screw-down crown is equipped of course with Rolexs Twinlock double-security waterproofing system and the piece overall will take you a thousand feet into the ocean depths without breaking a sweat. Thats more of a promise than to-be-tested for most but the bravest of us, but its a reassuring knowledge to have that when you glance upon your wrist youre looking at one of the most deliberately capable machines of fine luxury on the planet.
