A rare, "Special Piece" example of the Romain Gauthier Insight Micro-Rotor. The watch is the epitome of the watchmaker's industrial, yet traditional aesthetic, and certainly lives up to its name, with an openworked dial that reveals the micro-rotor on both sides. In this "SP", the logo plaque features a beautiful blue grand feu enamel, matching the hours, minutes and seconds.
ThisInsight Micro-Rotoris one of few pieces made in natural titanium, and carries an "SP" designation on the reverse, indicating that it's a Special Piece. At the time, the introduction of the Insight series made this the third model from Romain Gauthier, further showcasing the maker's penchant for combining industrial styles with traditional watchmaking.
The core of theInsight Micro-Rotoris the movement, visible through the openworked dial. From a technical perspective, the movement is self-winding, featuring a micro-rotor visible from both sides. Pivotedon both the dial and the back, the micro-rotor winds twin mainsprings. Both barrels can be seen on the left side of the movement from the back, providing 80-hours of power reserve altogether.
The calibre consists of 206 individual components, with numerous hand-applied finishing techniques used throughout, as well as frosting, snailing, graining and polished bevels on the bridges and countersinks. The gears and ratchet wheels have circular spokes, while the screws have S-shaped heads, both a signature ofRomain Gauthier's work.
Thedeep blue grand feu enamel dialshows the time display in a vertical line, with the hours and minutes at 12 oclock and seconds just below. Both sub-dials are covered in fired vitreous enamel, with hollowed-out, dagger-shaped hands for the hours and minutes.Romain Gauthiersdistinctive balance wheelis shown at 6 oclock, with curved arms and calibrated eccentric weights, flanked by the makers initials, which in this example are made blue to match the dial.
Meanwhile, the case measures 39.5mm across and just 12.9mm thick, is made out of natural titanium, which is untreated. The crown for winding manually and setting the time is at 2 oclock, to allow space for wrist movement. The watch is accompanied by its original box and papers, which reference the watch as a special piece (SP) and are personally signed by Romain Gauthier himself, with a short note of thanks.
