One of the earliest references created by Daniel Roth's eponymous brand, this 2147 Chronograph is perhaps the most classic of Roth's designs. An original owner example, this watch bears an especially early number within the first five, and features an early Clous de Paris guilloch dial.

Perhaps one of the most celebrated examples of Roth's watches and independent watchmaking of the 90s as a whole, this 2147 Chronograph is a classic piece that speaks to the quality and beauty of the watchmaker's earliest work.

This watch is an especially early example that only passed through the hands of a single owner, who bought the piece after meeting Roth. As testament to this, the watch bears a number below 5. Notably, the watch does not feature Roth's pinstripe guilloch but rather the earliest execution of the Clous de Paris dial.

Turning our attention to the rest of the dial, we see that Roths signature is placed just under 12 oclock, and the number of the piece is below 6 o'clock, in keeping with watchmaking tradition.If you compare this piece with his past work at Breguet, you can see that some of his design choices were transferred, such as the straight lugs, sloped bezel, and polishing throughout the yellow gold case. The lance-shaped hands, another visual inspiration from the Abraham-Louis Breguet, are rendered in blue steel. The watch has Roth's signature double-ellipse case, which balances straight lines and curves.

Assembled by hand in the brands Valle du Joux workshop, thisDaniel Roth Chronograph 2147is powered by a finely finished Lemania 2320movement, behind a solid caseback. The movement features a 21 jewel, straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance adjusted to 5 positions, a self-compensating Breguet spring and swan-neck micrometer regulator. Aesthetically, the calibre is finished to a high standard. The movement features chamfering, polishing and decoration, in the form of Geneva striping.

Condition

This Daniel Roth Chronograph 2147 is in excellent overall condition. The case and lugs show light superficial marks, though only on the extreme surface of the material. Warm oxidation is found around the mid-case lip. The Clous de Paris dial, hands, and movement, are free from any signs of imperfections. On the solid caseback and buckle, the hallmarks and engravings are crisp and well defined.
